5 Things I’ve learnt from using Workaway

Workaway is a platform that connects travelers with hosts across the world, enabling self-development and cultural exchange through a mind-boggling variety of projects. I’ve done 7 and counting; here’s what I’ve learned so far…

  1. It’s cheaper to travel with Workaway as (often) your accommodation and food are paid for in return for the work you do

  2. That the world does contain many open-minded and kind-hearted people, trying to better themselves and others (despite how depressing it can all seem sometimes) *Disclaimer however that this statement probably stems from selection bias as the kind of people drawn to platforms such as Workaway will tend to have these qualities.

  3. In spending relatively short periods of time plunging myself into different families, organisations and businesses, I’ve become more aware of how each of these is so complex and takes so long to fully understand. Consequently, I feel I appreciate the skills required to manage relationships with a wide variety of people.

  4. You can never make everyone happy. But, (as if it were easy) being honest and communicating openly is often a good pathway to successful interactions

  5. Positive exchanges happen when both parties know and are clear about what they want. If interests align then a symbiotic relationship can form, where both members benefit from what is being given and received.
