5 Things I’ve learnt about organising life…

Age: 14-ever

  1. Notes on my phone

Below is a photo of my notes app. These folders streamline my thinking, organisation and ambitions, as well as facilitating reflection.

My Dream Analysis folder, for example, is where I record any dreams I remember as soon as I wake up. It’s always fun to look back through 😂 The others contain excerpts, quotes and general life moments that would have been forgotten without this ever-handy virtual record.

It’s so handy in fact that I’m painstakingly printing out the notes from each folder to make an actual folder of my notes.

2. Tabs on laptop

I don’t know how applicable this is, as everyone has different technology, but on my laptop I like to categorize my work in to different tabs which helps me stay focused on the task at hand.

This can be done by ensuring the ‘Show Task View’ option is enabled (creating a button on your taskbar) and then just clicking that when you want to switch between desktops.

Below is an example of my desktops such as Uni work, French, Blog, chill and more. This way you can tabs for work open, go and chill for a bit, then return back to work with a fresh mindset.

3. One line a day Journal

I’ve kept a journal since I was 14.

Journals can seem slightly overwhelming when faced with a blank lined page but with this little book you record just a couple of sentences a day.

They last for five years and on each page you build a record where you start to see what you were doing the year before.

It’s fascinating to watch how your handwriting, expression and daily activities change over the years and really enables you to get a sense of perspective of the ever-changing life you live.

They come in all different styles and are great presents too!

4. Quizlet

This app helped me get 3A*s at A Level, helped me learn French, helps me develop and so much more.

With easy interactive quizzes, you create yourself, the flashcards are always there to practice. Writing this now I feel like I’m being sponsored or something. But seriously it really does help you learn, just by pure repetition.

It should be noted though that this learning style is just my personal preference. Learning is a very individualised process so experiment, see if this works for you, if it doesn’t, no worries!

5. Spotify

Who doesn’t love music? I have over 30 playlists. Organising them was a gigantic task to begin with. But after categorising songs in to different vibes, moods and activities it has become so much easier to find the right tune for the right moment.

Following advice from my brother, I also added personal playlist covers which Spotify allows you to do in settings. This added another level of personalisation and made the layout of my account so much more pleasing.
